Vizag district topped the country in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
District Collector Pravin Kumar and former Project Director of District Water Management Association, Kalyana Chakravarthi were honoured with the National award from Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar in Delhi a few days ago.
Recognising the feat, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh too facilitated Pravin Kumar on Friday.
The Facebook post read, “By laying 1089 km of roads, constructing 663 Anganwadi buildings, achieving 1,345 km of avenue plantation, horticulture in 4,593 acres and 29,694 farm ponds and coffee gardens in 20,991 acres under the MGNREGS, Visakhapatnam district bagged the first spot in the country.
As per an official press note, “With 3.28 lakh job cards for the families accounting for 5.8 lakh people, 225 lakh man-days of works were created. Wages worth ₹297.7 crore were disbursed the district in 2016-17 fiscal and ₹373.45 crore in 2017-18 financial year, making the district achieving the top rank in the country.”
