The citizens of Vizag are facing tough times in disposing of garbage as the strike of the outsourced sanitation workers has now entered the fifth day.
The fear of fevers had hit the citizens hard in September and with the latest strike, the garbage is being accumulated without being disposed at the dump yard in proper time.
The strike is being conducted by 4,400 workers as a stand against the new G.O which mentions about transferring the sanitation department to a private sector.
While the garbage from the dustbins is being collected by the trucks efficiently, the waste in the opens is being left unattended. The GVMC has made an appeal to the commercial establishments not to throw the garbage in the open.
Additional Commissioner, GVVS Murthy said
, “As the drivers are not on strike, garbage from dumper-bins and others will be lifted.”Union Honorary President, P. Venkata Reddy and CITU City Secretary, P. Mani led a rally from the Rythu Bazaar at MVP Colony to the residence of MLA V. Ramakrishna Babu on Monday.
Reddy said, “The strike will be intensified. Transport workers in three zones joined the stir on Monday. Twenty-five workers were taken into preventive custody in Wards 9,10 and 11 and were let off later.”
