Vizagites have topped the list of the most number of feedback sent in for Swachh Survekshan 2017 in Andhra Pradesh. Vizag saw the most number of citizen participation for the competition to access 500 cities and towns in the country.
February 28 was the deadline to participate in the survey on the level of sanitation and cleanliness in the city. Cities that have received atleast 1000 feedback from citizens are qualified for participation. Out of the 500 proposed cities, a total of 430 have been qualified for participation now.
People in these 430 cities sent in their feedback through various channels such as the Swahhata App, calling up the hotline or by physically visiting the local municipal bodies. Out of the 430 cities, 44 cities and towns are Telugu speaking – 32 from Andhra Pradesh and 12 from Telangana.
Reportedly, the state nodal agency Swachch Andhra Corporation (SAC) states that 1,40,793 Vizagites sent in their feedback with 82,710 of them participating in the survey online. Vijayawada came a close second with a total of 1,02,743 votes, Srikakulam sent in only 1,715 votes, Rajahmundry sent in 1,803 votes and Kakinada sent in 1,702 votes. Tirupati on the other hand sent in a total of 15,171 votes.
In Telangana, Warangal surprisingly sent in more votes than Hyderabad – sending in a total of 1,11,444 votes against only 61,501. The ranking of the cities will most likely be announced on March 17.
While initially the participation of citizens was dull, it picked up after the local bodies started creating awareness on the same. While Vizag ranked fifth last year, this year they hope to top it.
