India’s largest 24 MTPA iron ore handling complex built by Essar Vizag Terminal Limited (EVTL) is established in Vizag and ready for inauguration.
The Rs. 830 crore worth state-of-the-art iron ore complex would be inaugurated by the Minister of Shipping and Water Resources, Nitin Gadkari. The complex, facilitated with advanced cargo handling equipment is the fastest vessel among Indian ports, to have a turnaround time of 1,20,000 tonnes per day. With the berth length of 325 meters will be able to berth Super Capesize vessels up to 2,00,000 DWT.
The complex is also environment friendly, focusing on global best practices in mechanisation and sustainable environmental protection. These aspects would help in reducing dust and spillage and improve the carbon footprint of the port.
To enable record cargo handling performance, EVTL strengthed the entire 9.5-km conveyor network to PLC automation.
The iron ore complex would sustain in all-weather conditions and help in the rapid growth of markets especially with China, Japan and Korea. Rail connectivity for cargo evacuation from the states of Chattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand is also provided.
EVTL took over the project in 2015 on a Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a period of 30 years.
