In what comes as a shocker, a six-month pregnant woman was allegedly attacked by her husband and mother-in-law over dowry in Vizag. Rajeswari (24), was reportedly admitted to a hospital after being physically assaulted by the duo, who demanded an additional dowry of Rs 25 lakhs.
The woman, a resident of NAD junction in Vizag, was reportedly forced into a car by her husband Damodar, and mother-in-law Lalitha, who planned to take her to a hospital and abort her pregnancy. With Rajeswari resisting, Damodar and Lalitha allegedly launched a physical attack on her and demanded a dowry to bear a child.
Rajeswari, however, managed to escape from the car and took the help of the locals to lodge a complaint at Pendurthi police station. The case was subsequently transferred to the Airport police. On Tuesday night, Rajeswari was admitted to KGH in the city, where her condition is said to be stable. However, the status of her pregnancy is yet to be known.
After filing the complaint, the police registered cases against Damodar and Lalitha, in Vizag, under Sections 498(A), 324 and 506 of the IPC and Section 34 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The duo was arrested on Wednesday evening.
As reported by TOI, Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission Chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari will visit KGH in Vizag to see Rajeswari.
