While Andhra couldn’t quite get the ball rolling in its favour this Ranji season, team’s batting mainstay Ricky Bhui certainly did. The Vizag lad ended the season as Andhra’s top scorer and did no harm to his chances of a national call-up.
Bhui looked in scintillating touch throughout the latest Ranji season. Scoring 775 runs in 8 matches at a staggering average of 59.61 and a top score of 187, the young batsman proved to be the cornerstone of Andhra’s batting line up. The 22-year-old even notched up four centuries to break into the top 20 run getters of the tournament this season.
Ricky Bhui’s stellar run in the 2018-19 season of Ranji trophy comes on the back of his heroics in the previous season. The Vizag based batsman amassed 553 runs to emerge as Andhra’s second highest run-getter then.
With the prevailing fierce competition among different youngsters to bag a spot in the Indian team, things are not bound to be easy for the talented cricketer. However, consistent performances in the domestic circuit can surely help Bhui’s efforts towards the national side.
Ricky Bhui is yet to prove his mettle in the IPL though. The batsman has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming edition and will be looking to make use of the platform this year to grab the spotlight.
While speaking to Yo! Vizag earlier, Bhui shared his dream of turning out to be a superstar for the Indian team. “With notable performances being rewarded by the selectors, getting into the Indian squad is quite open now. Be it with my state team, IPL franchise, or even with the India A team, I am determined on scoring runs whenever I get the chance and eventually make my way into the national team,” Ricky Bhui said when asked about his plans for the future.
