In a heartening news, Vizag’s Saketh Myneni has won the $25,000 ITF Futures men’s singles title in Karshi, Uzbekistan, on Saturday.
Saketh Myneni defeated Yaraslav Shyla 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) in a hard-fought final that lasted for about an hour and 57 minutes.
“It’s been a tough grind. I am happy with the progress. Whatever progress I have been making, the things that I have been working on is coming back. My fitness is also increasing,” Myneni was quoted
as saying by TOI.The Vizag lad held a ranking of 137 before it slipped to 530 due to the setbacks he received owing to multiple injuries.
A Vizagite, born in the city, Saketh Myneni started his schooling at Timpany. His initial tryst with tennis began at the local tennis courts and at Century Club, where his father was a member. It was after all his passion and drive right from when he was a young boy. “I was always interested in outdoor sports of some kind, but when I turned 11; I knew it was going to be tennis for me. I picked up the sport faster than many others and my visual learning capabilities made me good at the game from the start,” he said
