Vizag reported over 200 new coronavirus cases from Sunday to Monday, prompting the district tally to surpass the 3000-mark, on 20 July. According to COVID-19 Special Officer for Visakhapatnam, Dr PV Sudhakar, as many as 209 individuals tested positive for the virus in a single day. 1125 patients are undergoing treatment in the district and 1965 individuals have been discharged after recovering from the infection. The death toll in Visakhapatnam district increased to 53 as two more patients succumbed to coronavirus.
As per the update received on Monday evening, the officials have demarcated 14 new containment clusters (Police Quarters, Chinnapolamambapalem temple – Sivajipalem, MVP Sector -2, Sainagar – Pendurthy, Gavarapalem – Lakshmipuram, Peenaripalem – Narsipatnam, Patha Bayapureddypalem, Santhinagar – Anakapalle, Kotha Veedhi – Anakapalle, Sector 4 – Muralinagar, Thatichetlapalem 2, Raj Vihar Apartment, Satabdhi Nagar, Chandranagar) in Vizag, in wake of the latest COVID-19 cases. As on 20 July evening, Vizag reported 120 very active clusters, 240 active clusters, 201 dormant clusters, and 39 denotified clusters.
While it took over three months for the district to witness its first 1000 coronavirus cases, the tally has been escalating at a worrying pace in July. The confirmed COVID-19 cases count doubled within 10 days, from 2 July to 12 July. The district has seen a further spike as the tally crossed 3000 on 20 July.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh crossed 50,000-mark, as the state registered as many as 4074 new COVID-19 cases on Monday. The total number of COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh has now climbed to 53,724. All the new cases have been reported from the state with none of the returnees from other states and foreign countries testing positive in 24 hours. East Godavari reported a record 1,086 new COVID-19 cases in a single day while Guntur, Kurnool, West Godavari and Anantapur accounted for 596 cases, 559 cases 354 cases, and 342 cases respectively.
AP state also witnessed 54 deaths, due to COVID-19, in the past 24 hours. Nine each from East Godavari and Guntur, seven from Krishna, six from Anantapur, five each from Chittoor, Srikakulam, and Visakhapatnam, three each from Kurnool and West Godavari, one each from Kadapa and Vizianagaram, have succumbed to the infection.
33,580 samples were tested across Andhra Pradesh between Sunday and Monday. So far, Andhra Pradesh has tested 13,49,112 samples for COVID-19. While 24,228 individuals (including the 1,335 individuals discharged today) have been discharged so far, 28,800 coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh have been marked active as on Monday afternoon.
