Vizag’s Rana Uppalapati, who embarked an epic mission in September, has reached the halfway mark of his marathon skating journey. Intended to raise awareness and support for the education of 25,000 girl children in India, the skater set out to skate through the golden triangle of the country, covering 6000 km over a span of 90 days.
Uppalapati, who works as a Business Associate for Titan, flagged off the Educate as you Carry Her Onwards (ECHO) campaign under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The journey is also supported by members of CII Young Indians.
On 24 October (the 50th day of his journey), the man has surpassed the 3000 km mark in his journey and took to his social media to share the same. “A circle represents completion to some, but it is perhaps a reaffirmation where the journey along the periphery allows the views to meet halfway, of what is existent inward and what is realised outward, while understanding to be without in order to be within,” Rana wrote in his Facebook
post.Interacting with several students and taking part in many seminars, Rana has been educating people about the importance of educating a girl child. “Over fifty days, interfacing with a diverse set of children, communities, cultures and customs while also coming face to face with internal and external struggle, much seems to have been left behind, with so much learning to carry forward, together,” he added.
On course, the avid skater also met numerous eminent personalities including India’s Vice-President Venkiah Naidu, who even appreciated his work for a social cause.
Rana Uppalapati is an entrepreneur and skater based out of Vizag. Being a fervent advocate of serving a cause whilst skating, the 37-year-old also holds an account for multiple skating feats, including the 242 km long expedition from Odisha to Vizag that was aimed at raising awareness against Breast Cancer.
