Vizag stood first across the country in citizens’ feedback in the recently held Swachh Survekshan 2018 for assessing the cleanest city.
Reportedly, as many as 1.60 lakh citizens came forward from the city to register their feedback on Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC). The past few months saw the city’s civic body leave no stone unturned in trying to push Vizag towards bagging the tag of the country’s cleanest city. The authorities and ambassadors played a crucial role in spreading awareness among people to give their feedback on the city’s maintenance and cleanliness.
On Saturday, which was the last day for registering the opinion, GVMC even organised a mega walk on the beach road as an effort to make more individuals participate in Swachh Survekshan 2018. It has been learned that GVMC commissioner M Hari Narayanan expressed his happiness over the tremendous response garnered from the citizens over the past few weeks.
Swachh Bharat was a mission flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim of promoting cleanliness and hygiene in the country. Swacch Survekshan is a survey conducted every year which assesses the feedback of the citizens and concerned authorities to declare India’s cleanest city. While Madhya Pradesh’s Indore was hailed as India’s cleanest city in 2017, Vizag emerged as the third cleanest city in Swachh Survekshan 2017.
