Since the launch of the ‘India BPO Promotion Scheme’ (IBPS), owned by Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), it has been reported that nearly 90% of employment generation has been contributed by Vizag alone. This scheme works under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. IBPS is one of the key components of Digital India and aims at creating employment in Tier-II, and Tier-III, cities, and towns, throughout India.
Under this scheme, the Government has focused on providing employment to eligible youths in the Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) units. Till date, the State has provided employment to 19,380 youths through 26 BPOs, since the scheme was launched in 2016.
As reported by TOI, The STPI Joint Director MP Dubey said, “Nearly 90% of the employment generation was contributed only from Vizag city. Thus, the port city has emerged as India’s top city, among all the Tier-II cities in the country, in the successful implementation of the IBPS scheme.”
The jobs range from call centers, and IT-enabled companies, to legal transcriptions and medical transcriptions, with the pay scales ranging from of Rs.15,000 to Rs. 25,000. Most of the companies serve the international customers from Europe, USA, New Zealand and Australia and few for Indian businesses as well.
