Woman in Vizag climbs cell tower, threatens to end life by jumping off it

In a high drama incident at the city’s Collectorate on Monday, a woman in Vizag climbed a cell tower, demanding justice over a property issue, and threatened to end her life by jumping off it.

The incident took place during the grievance meeting, when U.Lakshmi (36), a resident of Ambedkar Colony at Malkapuram, mounted in the Collectorate compound and shouted that she would commit suicide if her issue wasn’t addressed. The police climbed the tower and convinced the woman to get down.

As informed by Lakshmi, her husband had died two years ago and she has been living with her two daughters ever since. After her husband’s death, she had received a piece of land from her parents and alleged that a retired cop, B Nagabhushanam, occupied the land. She said that she had approached several local heads and the police for help but to no avail.

Responding positively to her please, district collector Pravin Kumar

assured that necessary actions would be taken on her petitions.
