The much-awaited multi-level car parking facility in Vizag is expected to be thrown open to the public by this year-end. While the foundation stone for the project was laid last year, the construction activities had hit several roadblocks. This year, the COVID-19 forced lockdown resulted in a further delay in the works. However, with the activities back to full throttle over the past few weeks, the parking facility, which is one of the Smart City Projects by the GVMC, has neared completion.
Speaking to Yo! Vizag, Executive Engineer, Smart City Works, V Sudhakar said, “The multi-level car parking facility is nearing completion. We are planning to conduct a trial run in the coming 10-15 days. It is likely to be ready for public use by this year-end.”
Being built near Jagadamba junction, which is often a hotspot for vehicular congestion and parking snarls, the advanced car parking facility is being touted to provide respite to from traffic woes in the area. It may be noted that reckless parking of four-wheelers in the area often calls for traffic authorities to tow them away in order to ease space on roads.
“The multi-level car parking facility will definitely help in managing traffic at Jagadamba centre. The area is a hub for several commercial activities and has been calling for a smart solution to accommodate the parking needs of citizens. Once the facility is ready for public use, I expect it will play a major role in doing the same,” a traffic cop said. The G+5 facility, which is being handled by a Pune-based private firm, will be equipped with modern facilities and can accommodate 100 cars.
