The large dolphin shaped structure that once beckoned us to the Children’s Theater has now made way to a classier, more spacious and upgraded auditorium.
The brand new VUDA Children’s Arena, is spread across two floors with a built-up area of 2000 sq mts, the huge high-ceilinged children’s arena looks very inviting from the outside. Walk in through the main gate and you are bound to fall in love with the space that has been created. Green stretches of lawn on one side, parking space on the other and a mini zoo are a few attractions in this two-acre stretch that would catch your attention right as you enter. But walk into the portals of the building and you are really impressed.
The ground floor houses a huge multi-purpose auditorium that is complete with a stage and lighting. With a huge lobby at the entrance, the air-conditioned auditorium can be used to conduct various functions, birthday parties, music shows, school celebrations and cultural activities related to children. With the capacity to hold up to 400 people, it has been impressively done up. The first floor, on the other hand, holds a large multi-purpose theater with a huge screen and a stage. With a seating capacity for 600 here, this has been designed to showcase movies predominantly in English, Telugu and Hindi. And yes, the themes of the movies showcased would be children-oriented, meaningful and patriotic. While regular filming of movies is on the cards for weekends, schools can use the premises to run chosen films through the week as well. With a projector, Dolby sound system, large airy corridors and green rooms, everything has been well thought out. Also, while the main purpose of this hall is to use it as a theater, it has been equipped with a stage to enable it as a platform for conducting other events as well, giving it that edge of flexibility.
The inauguration of the children’s arena on December 17 by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, was the culmination of the Rs.22 crore project which was commenced in 2013. Though it took three years, the end result is impressive enough to warrant the wait. Further plans include a canteen to supply good quality food to visitors at the theater. The management is also working out the details to rope in trainers for hobby classes like painting, dance, music, martial arts and even yoga for children along with family members. With the aim to bring high-quality entertainment and learning for children, this definitely is an endeavor that the city needs and is really excited about.
