The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is ready to work on exceptional plans they have for the forthcoming summer. Having had experiences in the past like industries being halted due to lack of water supply, the GVMC is getting ready to beat the heat this summer and see to it that nothing goes wrong.
GVMC is planning to spend up to Rs.15 crore to ensure that there will be no water supply disturbances or shortage. This water will be sufficient for 22 lakh residents within the limits of Visakhapatnam covering eight zones which include Bheemili and Anakapalli. This summer action play is to come out within three weeks according to the instructions given by the government to the district collector, Pravin Kumar and GMVC commissioner, M Hari Narayanan.
According to the reports given out by the civic officials there has been a shortage of drinking water even with an expenditure of nearly Rs.10 crore.Even though they prepare plans every year, this year the government it to submit a comprehensive plan to permanent measures as there is a high demand for water supply due to the increasing demand in the city.
This plan includes repairing borewells, laying new pipelines, cleaning of water tanks and drains and also improving networks for reservoirs. Adding on to this, the water tanks will be taking 80 to 100 additional trips to reach the demand.
