The people of Visakhapatnam have been witnessing a November which is different from what they have been used to. From dipped temperatures to cloudy skies to above-normal, yet light in intensity, rainfall, the weather in Vizag hasn’t been anything like what we expected it to be this time of the year. As per the normal, Vizag would’ve been witnessing a bit of a dry spell right now, as it welcomes the winter season. However, for the past ten days, or so, we have been witnessing light to moderate rainfall every other day in the city.
Yo! Vizag got to the bottom of this, in a chat with Andhra Pradesh Weatherman aka Sai Praneeth.
According to Praneeth, Vizag has recorded above-normal rainfall in November 2021. All the rain that has been falling, from the past two weeks, is not seasonal. Instead, it is the consequence of two low pressure systems that developed over the Bay of Bengal recently. The focus of these systems was not Vizag and hence, the city only received light rainfall. However, Southern Andhra Pradesh was hit much worse, with Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Prakasam districts recording high rainfall.

When asked how the weather will fair in the coming days in Vizag, Praneeth stated that the light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue on an irregular basis for the remainder of this week. But from next week onwards, the rainfall will decrease gradually, as the low pressure system exits the city.
In the beginning of December 2021, Vizag is expected to witness a mix of warm days and cold nights. However, during the second week of the month, another low pressure system is expected to strike the city and bring rainfall. It’s unclear as of now whether this system will head towards Vizag or divert elsewhere. After that, Vizag will start experiencing winter-like temperatures, especially in the last week of 2021.
