After setting the eleventh edition of IPL ablaze with a thumping victory in the season opener, Tuesday saw Chennai Super Kings pull off yet another heist when they overcame Kolkata Knight Riders on the penultimate delivery of the match. After making a roaring entry after two years, the team from down south seems to have hit their first hurdle this IPL.
In what is coming as the latest news, it has been learned that Chennai will no longer be hosting any matches this season. Given the recent turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to shift IPL 2018 games out of Chennai owing to security reasons. The schedule of the matches will, however, remain unchanged.
During the franchise’s home game against KKR on Tuesday, massive protests were held outside MA Chidambaram Stadium over the Cauvery issue. The game also witnessed a few tensed moments when shoes were flung at Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja. Four people were immediately taken into control by the police.
With Chennai no longer eligible to host any IPL matches this year, names of a few other cities, that could probably host CSK’s upcoming games, are doing rounds.
Given the love Visakhapatnam has for the game and the tournament, how dearly would we love to host MS Dhoni and his Super Kings? From scoring his maiden ODI century to mauling Axar Patel in an IPL game in 2016, Visakhapatnam has proved to be a happy hunting ground for MSD.
Visakhapatnam’s Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy stadium hosted matches over the previous editions of the IPL, where the fans were treated to some high-voltage matches and got the chance to witness their favourite superstars live in action.
With fingers crossed, we duly pray that Visakhapatnam gets to host a few IPL matches this year and the fans get treated to some exhilarating stuff yet again!
