The city of Hyderabad is all set to host the much-awaited World Sweet Festival. A unique event that will showcase varieties from around 25 Indian states and 15 foreign countries, the festival sure has all the ingredients to keep anyone with a sweet-tooth hooked.
This one-of-its-kind festival, which is being organised by the Telangana government, will be flagged off on 13th January at Secunderabad’s Parade Grounds and will be celebrated for three days.
“The sweet festival is being organised to showcase the cosmopolitan nature of Hyderabad in a sweet way. The festival is conceptualised to provide a ‘sweet link’ connecting different communities and appreciate the variations” B Venkatesam, tourism and culture secretary, was quoted as saying.
It has also been reported that as many as 1000 varieties of sweets, prepared locally, will be showcased at the festival. “No hotels, no shopkeepers, no caterers, no commercial representation will be part of the event,” said Venkatesam. “‘We want to make Hyderabad a place to head for if someone is looking for a sweet that is typical to any region in the country,” added the secretary.
The secratary informed that the sweets will be categorised as per their variety and not as per the state from whoch they hail.
The event would be held along with the annual Kite Festival which will mark the Sankranti celebrations in the Telugu states.
