YSR Congress Party Chief and opposition leader, YS Jagan, was attacked with a knife at the Visakhapatnam airport on Thursday. The attack left the politician with an injury to his left shoulder.
Reportedly, the attacker stabbed YS Jagan in the arm as soon as he came out of the lounge of the Visakhapatnam airport. The guilty has been detained by the police, who are interrogating him to gain further insights. The YSRCP Chief had reached the Visakhapatnam airport to board a flight to Hyderabad.
The attacker, identified as Srinivas from East Godavari district, a worker at the airport, attacked Jagan after asking him for a selfie. When Srinivas tried to attack Jagan for the second time, he was overpowered by the people surrounding the leader.
The weapon used is being speculated to be the one used in cockfights and has been seized by the police authorities. YS Jagan’s supporters and party members turned out in large numbers at the Visakhapatnam airport. The leader later left to Hyderabad after receiving first-aid treatment.
While Home Minister China Rajappa termed the incident as unfortunate and ordered a further probe into the incident, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu expressed his shock over the incident and asked the concerned agencies to carry out a thorough investigation.
