Speculations have been rife that a Malayalam superstar would be donning the role of Andhra Pradesh’s former Chief Minister, late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, in the film being made over him. Confirming the same, it has now been officially announced that Malayalam star Mammootty will be playing the role of YSR in his biopic, titled ‘Yatra’. Director Mahi V Raghav of ‘Anando Brahma’, is set to direct this much-awaited film.
The director recently met Mammootty and took to Facebook to share his photograph with the superstar. “It’s truly an honour sir. Humbled and grateful for the opportunity,” Raghav commented on the post.
“Yes, Mammootty sir agreed to play the role of YSR. The film will be made on a lavish scale. I’ve to meet him soon again to decide and discuss the characterization,” Raghav was quoted as saying by the Gulte.
On the other hand, there have reports speculating the casting of actress Nayanthara and Tamil actor Suriya as Vijayamma and YS Jagan respectively. However, it has been learned that the cast has not been finalised yet and the actors weren’t approached for the role.
‘Yatra’, the biopic on YSR, will be yet another addition to the list of biopics that are slated to thrill the Tollywood audience in the coming days. While Chiranjeevi is busy with ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’, the biopic of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, numerous directors and actors are planning to film the story of popular actor and politician N.T Rama Rao. Actress Savitri’s biopic, ‘Mahanti’, too will be hitting the screens soon.
