Voicing the youth’s aspirations: Yuva Galam to march in Visakhapatnam

Working towards giving a voice to the youth in politics, Naga Sravan Kilaru founded Yuva Galam to best represent the aspirations and interests of the youth in the state. The 25-year-old, who has been crusading the cause on his bicycle and has covered 570 km across Andhra Pradesh until now, is now in Visakhapatnam to take the movement forward.

“Everyone talks about the importance of youth in nation building. Several policies and strategies are formulated on how to accommadate the youth in decision making and cater due importance to their goals. However, many of these policies and strategies are left behind without being implemented owing to invariable reasons.

There is a necessitiy for a better research and documentation of the youth’s aspirations and this is what we strive to achieve at Yuva Galam. We interact with youngsters at the ground level and accordingly, prepare a manifesto that would be containing different unspoken problems and expectations of the youth in the state. We then plan on representing this manifesto to several political parties and encourage them to chart out feasible policies and build an active and informed youth citizenship,” explains Sravan.

The founder of Yuva Galam also adds that it is important to look beyond the job aspirations of the youngsters.”Youth shouldn’t be looked upon as just job seekers. They should be provided with sufficient opportunities to take part in the governance and achieving this is one of our main agendas,” he says.

Sravan, who started his campaign on 12 August on the occasion of International Youth Day, has covered the districts of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram before reaching Visakhapatnam. “We have visited around 26 colleges and interacted with close to 14,000 students across the three districts so far. The response has been good and many students are coming forward to take the charge of advocating our cause in their respective colleges,” shares Sravan.
